The
Shields Gazette declared
that May 3rd was a “Good
day” for Labour in South
Shields.
As the final votes were
counted at Temple Park
Centre on Friday morning
(4th May) it was
announced that the South
Shields Labour Party had
gained two seats and
retained all the seats
we were defending.
The Labour Party gained
Biddick and All Saints
from the Liberal
Democrats, and crushed
the Progressives in
Harton to win the seat
by over 300 votes.
In what was regarded as
a high turnout by voters
for a local election,
the Independent Alliance
failed to win any seats
in South Shields forcing
their campaign organiser
to concede that the
results were
“disappointing.”
